Hey Stephen of Stephens City - I am Finn form Front Roayl. Just gettingstarted w/ pickleball so willing to play if you don't mind a novice? I believe there are courts at Shenandoah University that are free to use. Any interest - let me know?
My name is Dave and new to Winchester area. Been playing Pickleball for about a year. If you’re ever looking for an extra person let me know. Can only play in the evenings though.
The best way to meet new players, organize play times, track matches, and receive a calculated playing level, is to play in a ladder league. Running a ladder league is free, and anyone can start one in minutes.
We are both in the same boat, Holly. To be honest - I was beginning to think no one was on this site that lived near Front Royal. What days and times would work best for you and do you know of any additional courts besides the two and Bing Crosby Park and the courts up in Winchester at Shenandoan University?
Finn
Hey there.. so for the next few weeks I can play in the mornings but after that I’ll only be able to play in the evenings. I know that Highknob is finishing their court right now but not sure when it’s going to be ready. I have only played at Bing Crosby and today was my first day but I wasn’t too bad lol. I absolutely loved it!
Oh wow, Holly, they're actually setting up a court at High Know (presumably by the club house)? I live at the bottom of the mountain - are you a fellow resident?
Evenings are definitely better for me - I start work at 6AM.
I've watched a couple of videos ad it does look like fun - so looking forward to getting out there.
Do weekends work at all for you - I can likely play anytime including mornings - though I do cycle when it's not too hot - so on cooler mornings, I will likely be on the roads earlyish.
Finn
I’m not a resident high knob but one of the ladies I played with yesterday is and she was telling me about it. There’s a group of us playing Saturday morning at 9 o’clock at Bing Crosby. You should come!
Ah - great! It would be fantastic if the one here at HK opens up.
I am actually planning on cycling early this Saturday morning in The Plains/Marshall/Delaplane area. I will plan on stopping by as soon as I get back and hope to catch you guys (though likely after 9 but imaginie you guys will be there for a bit). Heading to Richmond around noon so will not be able to play this Saturday.
Thanks for following up, Holly. Looking forward to meeting you and the other players.
Hey Holly - I got to the courts at 10:20 and you guys had already left it seems? Sorry I missed meeting you guys. I hope to soon because I am ready to break in my paddle.
yeah they started at 8:30 this morning but you had to have just missed us! Well hopefully you can join us either Tuesday or Wednesday morning! They have change the time to 830 now because of the heat..
Darn - sorry I missed you guys but totally understand the concept of beating the heat.
It is difficult for me to go on mornings during the workweek - I work from 6 to 5 M-F. If I am not cycling on Saturday morning - I will be there at 8:30.
Hey Holly - I drove up to the High Knob Club House to check out the court - and it looks to be relatively freshly lined for Pickleball. Court is in good condition (with a sturdy net) and is partially shaded during a good portion of the day. Let your friend that lives her in HK know so we can all make good use of it.
Hello Mr. Storning, and Ms. Henry, I’d love to play sometime in the near future. I have some years playing tennis, but have never played pickleball. If you have a paddle I could borrow, and some patience, I’d be grateful.
Hey Darin - I only have one paddle so we'll have to see if someone else might have an extra. You can pick on up for a fairly reasonable price on Amazon and I bet that Target, Walmart and the Sporting Goods shop in the mall ajacent to Lowe's will have selections.
There’s a small manufacturer in Harrisonburg making carbon paddles called Conda for $80, and from what I’ve seen, that’s half the price. I’ll probably snag one of those, and I’ll be in touch.
Holly is the ladies group still playing on saturday mornings. We'd like to join. We will be in front royal for 3 months minimum and also pretty new to pickleball
